Sulfur Hexafluoride (insulating gas) Emission Estimates for China: An

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF 6) is the most potent greenhouse gas regulated under the Kyoto Protocol, with a high global warming potential. In this study, SF 6 emissions from China were inventoried for 1990–2010 and projected to 2020. Results reveal that the highest SF 6 emission contribution originates from the electrical equipment sector (about 70%), followed by the magnesium production sector, the semiconductor manufacture sector and the SF 6 production sector (each about 10%).

Sulfur hexafluoride: The truths and myths of this greenhouse gas

Sulfr hexafluoride is damaging to the environment: TRUE. Along with CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs and PFCs, insulating gas is an industrial gas that doesn't exist naturally in the atmosphere and so impacts the radiation balance, contributing to climate change. gaz sf6 is the energy industry"dirty little secret": FALSE. Sulfr hexafluoride is certainly no secret in the Norwegian energy industry. Its use is highly regulated, and many of its users are working together to share experience and come up with viable alternatives sf6 gas is used in wind turbines: TRUE. insulating gas is used not in the turbine itself, but in the switchgear that controls the current generated by the turbine. But there is nothing unique about wind turbines. There are no viable alternatives to insulating gas: PARTLY FALSE. Bodies including the European Union are known to be considering a ban on sf 6 at low-to-medium voltage levels in the future.

Greenhouse gas emissions by China - Wikipedia

Greenhouse gas emissions by China are the largest of any country in the world both in production and consumption terms, and stem mainly from coal electricity generation and mining. When measuring production-based emissions, China emitted over 12 gigatonnes CO2eq of greenhouse gases in 2014; almost 30% of the world total. This corresponds to over 7 tonnes CO2eq emitted per person each year, slightly over the world average and the EU average but less than half the second largest emitter of greenho

The decline in total emissions—from 6,983 million metric tons carbon dioxide equivalent (MMTCO2e) in 2008 to 6,576 MMTCO2e in 2009—was the largest since emissions have been tracked over the 1990-2009 time frame. It was largely the result of a 419-MMTCO2e drop in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (7.1 percent). There was a small increase of 7 MMTCO2e (0.9 percent) in methane (CH4) emissions, and an increase of 8 MMTCO2e (4.9 percent), based on partial data, in emissions of man-made gases with high global warming potentials (high-GWP gases). (Draft estimates for emissions of HFC and PFC substitutes for ozone-depleting substances in 2009 are included; 2008 data are used for emissions of other high-GWP gases.) Emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), on the other hand, fell by 4 MMTCO2e (1.7 percent). The decrease in U.S. CO2emissions in 2009 resulted primarily from three fact...

What Is insulating gas? and How Is It used?Is Sulfr hexafluoride A Danger to Human Health? How Environmentally Damaging Is It?Has The Environmental Impact Even Been Underestimated? Is The Mitigation of sf6 gas Emissions Difficult? Do Better Solutions Exist?Conclusionsf 6 is a long-lived, highly potent greenhouse gas. It is manmade and combines excellent electrical properties with chemical stability and low toxicity. Moreover, It’s non-flammable and low in cost. These characteristics have led to its widespread and enthusiastic adoption by the electrical industry, which uses approximately 80% of all sf6 gasproduced (Powell, 2002: 6). Within the electrical industry Sulfr hexafluorideis used as an insulating medium for medium (MV) and high (HV) voltage electrical switchgear. A switchgear is the combination of electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate sections of electrical grids. Low-voltage (LV) switchgear are used for controlling electrical circuits within buildings, medium voltage (MV) switchgear for controlling the electrical grids within cities and towns, and high voltage (HV) switchgear for grids that span a greater geographical area such as countries and regions.
